A SCINTILLATING SHAPESHIFTER ROMANCE THAT WILL MAKE YOU SHIVER IN DELIGHT

Prior to reading this sexy shapeshifter erotic romance, I was vaguely familiar with Renee Rose’s work. I’d recently read her age-play romance, HER HOLLYWOOD DADDY, and knew there was buzz surrounding this “naughty” erotica author (who also pens BDSM books under the name Darling Adams). So when I saw the free “follow-up” novella to THE ALPHA’S HUNGER—THE ALPHA’S PUNISHMENT-- I downloaded it mostly out of curiosity because I enjoyed the author’s work. I wasn’t necessarily expecting much more than a pleasant read from that short novella since shapeshifter romances aren’t necessarily my “thing,” but boy am I glad to be proven wrong! In fact, I was so captivated by the dynamic between Ben and Ashley in that short novella that I immediately downloaded this full-length novel, THE ALPHA’S HUNGER.
Without giving too many spoilers away, let me say that I was really blown away by this book. Renee Rose takes the classic alpha boss/secretary hook and adds twist after delicious twist! THE ALPHA’S HUNGER is a beautifully crafted story featuring a magnetically sexy, gloriously tormented Alpha Lone “Wolf” hero who is powerfully drawn to his new assistant, the adorably charming and feisty Ashley Bell. But, knowing deep down that falling in love with a human is a bad idea, he tries to suppress his fierce animalistic urges and vows to keep sweet Ashley at arm’s length. However, all bets are off when his beguiling secretary with the delicious curves and big blue eyes betrays him in the worst possible way, and now both their lives are in grave danger. Of course, there are fierce consequences to be paid for Ashley’s transgressions, and the big bad Ben Stone is not a man to be crossed!
I love the primal attraction between these two characters and how their relationship evolves as the characters become deeper entrenched in Ben’s dangerous and secretive Werewolf world. As a lover of all romance sub-genres (not just erotic bdsm/spanking romances), I have certain criteria to what makes a romance truly special: A unique premise that hasn’t been done hundreds of times. Hot, fiercely protective alpha heroes with a gentle touch. Sweet, smart, feisty heroines. Sizzling romantic chemistry brimming with emotional tenderness. Sparkling dialogue. And, most importantly, a deeply emotional component that melts my heart. THE ALPHA’S HUNGER has all that and more! It goes without saying that I was captivated by the book’s visceral romantic prose, suspenseful atmosphere, hot sensuality, and vibrant characters, but it was the emotional depth in this story that truly made this book shine. I found Ben’s deep inner turmoil to be particularly gripping, and I really believed that this gruff hero truly loved the heroine with every breath he took, and would do anything to protect her from harm. Even if that meant staying away from her forever. The inner battle he waged as he fought against his primitive instinct to mark her as is really resonated deeply, and added a nice level of complexity to this book.
And while the spanking scenes were unquestionably scorching hot, in my opinion, it was just icing on the cake and not the main draw of this book. I think all fans of the PNR genre looking for a hot, sexy, emotionally-provocative read would probably love this book, not just spanking erotica aficionados.
Bottom line: Renee Rose is now officially on my list of favorite romance authors I’ve read in 2015, and I look forward to eventually catching up on many of her backlist titles, as well as her future releases!

An amazing story with great characters that you can't help but fall in love with right from the start!

To be honest I normally shy away from the shape-shifter romance books since I can’t really get in to them – they just seem like too much fantasy. I must admit that in this case I was very pleasantly surprised. The main characters are Ashley Bell who is a 25 year old marketing assistant at Stone Technologies and 30 year old Ben Stone who is the owner and CEO of Stone Technologies. Ben took over the running of the company after the death of his brother Leon. Immediately Ben is attracted to Ashley which is very confusing for him since he is an Alpha wolf and she is a delicate human. Without thinking he offers her a position as his personal assistant so that he can keep an eye on her. Their mutual attraction is apparent in the first chapter. Ben indicates many times that he does not want to get involved with her since he has a lot of baggage including guilt for the death of his father and brother, not being the leader of the wolf pack and not being a good CEO at Stone Technologies. His life is also in danger so he is afraid being close to her will put her in danger.
Almost immediately after becoming his assistant, Ashley’s sister is kidnapped and Ashley is blackmailed into swapping Ben’s computer to save her sister. As part of Ben’s wolf abilities he can sense her distress and immediately knows that something is wrong. It turns out that the computer she was provided to swap with his is a bomb so he follows her to the meet where she is supposed to swap his laptop for her sister. Things go wrong and so he kidnaps her to try to figure out why she tried to kill him. So as the story progresses Ben is trying to protect Ashley and save her sister along with finding out who wanted his computer and why and truly who is behind the “hit” in the first place. During all this Ben tries to deny his attraction to Ashley since he knows she is not a suitable mate for an Alpha wolf.
I really enjoyed the main characters and felt the story moved through the plot at a nice pace. There was enough character development, romance and suspense to make me love the characters and their struggles. There were a lot of twists and turns and some parts that I really felt butterflies in my stomach! That trembling feeling for me it the sign that the author is really doing a great job and making me fully vested in the story. I really felt that Ben would do everything in his power to protect Ashley even if he has nothing to gain by it. Ashley is also a strong character who does not back down when challenged. While the erotic scenes were really hot, the fact that there was a moving plot and characters is what really makes this book special. I am glad that this is a full book with no cliffhanger and am anxious to see what happens next in the lives of Ben and Ashley.

Ashley finds herself thrust into a world she didn’t know existed and not in a good way. Her sister is in danger and she has just tried to kill her boss, at least inadvertently. Will she find her sister and save herself? Chances of success seem a bit slim or are they? The Alpha’s Hunger by Renee Rose was the first time I read this author but I can honestly say it will not be the last. This story was well written and full of action from the get go. Ashley has found herself in a no win situation but she is determined to save her sister and do the right thing. Little does she know just how stacked against her the odds are. And Ben isn’t quite sure what to make of the shy human. His wolf is fascinated by her and so is the human side, but why? Finding out was half the fun and seeing Ashley stand up to the Alpha wolf was the other half. Seeing how Ms. Rose managed to tie up the threads of this story in a way that was believable and exciting was well worth taking a chance on this new to me author. The story was well written and the characters were likeable. I hope to see more in this world and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
