About the Author
Marilyn Gottlieb started her writing career as a columnist in Dan’s Papers on Long Island, New York. Since 1993 she has been president of The Crescendo Group, a small full- service public relations firm. Prior to starting her own company, Ms. Gottlieb was senior vice president, director of public relations for Lintas, a $1.8 billion advertising agency. Previously she was with Ogilvy & Mather, the American Association of Advertising Agencies. A past member of the Board of Advertising Women of New York and an inductee into the YWCA’s prestigious Academy of Women Achievers, she taught Public Relations at the New School University for 18 years. In 2012 Ms. Gottlieb received an MFA in Writing and Literature from Stony Brook Southampton.

Immigrant story reads like novel

Different approach to immigrant life. Details enabled me to become emotionally involved with the way Frank handled new cultures and personal challenges while the novel structure enabled me to understand the historical context surrounding his actions. A powerful read that led me to explore how politics and world events have influenced my life.

Interesting perspective on 20th century history

If you are interested in learning about history from someone who has lived it, this is a great book. The subject - Frank Levy - directly experienced historical events that still shape world politics and perhaps most meaningfully, the identity and issues facing the Jewish people. Refreshingly, this book represents provocative and divisive periods of history (Germany/WWII and the mass settlement of Jews Israel) without a political agenda. The book is also a fairly light, easy read despite its depth. If you like history and enjoy learning about interesting people, this book won't disappoint.

An Amazing Read

Amazing writing...amazing story! This is a dramatic and endearing story of a young boy adjusting to life in Palestine after his family had the wisdom and foresight to escape from Nazi Germany, and then in his young teens to undergo yet another major transition: a new life in America. I found the story to be powerful and optimistic, written with a crisp and easy flowing style. A must read...one that takes the reader into the soul of a man determined to make it in America.
