Practical health and wellness strategies from Lauren Imparato, creator of the I.AM.YOU. lifestyle brand and yoga studio
Rest to rage. Meditate to work. Cleanse to get dirty.
Enough preaching about self-deprivation. No more striving for bodily purity. Who has the patience—or the time!—for strict dietary restrictions and hours of meditation? Let’s get real. These tactics just don’t work—at least not for long. But that doesn’t mean health and happiness are unobtainable.
Most often you just need an anxiety buster you can do while running down the street. Or a yoga pose you can do at your desk. Or a way to debloat what feels like an alien baby in your abdomen. Retox isn’t about changing who you are or denying life’s pleasures. It’s about tailoring sensible, scientifically-based health practices to the life you already live. It’s about working hard, playing harder, and renewing your balance and energy so you can do it all again.
In Retox, health expert Lauren Imparato strips yoga down to its anatomical principles, offering practical tips for fast relief. Then, drawing from a variety of disciplines—from psychology to nutrition to Tibetan philosophy—she designs no-nonsense strategies and delicious recipes to combat the most common challenges of modern life:
• Stress and anxiety
• Low energy
• Back pain and headaches
• Hangovers
• PMS
• Sleep Deprivation
• And much more…

Don't waste your money, contradictions galore and incorrect facts and info! She is a Marketing Genius, I'll give her that!
By TIF
The concept of this book is nice, I got the audible version and got through it very quickly and there are lots of contradictions from one chapter to the next which is very confusing. For example, the Alien baby de-bloat advice is to avoid all raw veggies to avoid belly bloat, but then in the chapter on the New Mile High club about flying solutions, she states "to avoid bloat" after flying to eat as many raw vegetables and fruits you can get your hands on a total contradiction and very confusing.
Also oranges are not the best source of Vitamin C which she states that they are throughout the book. The Orange industry has done a great job convincing people it is the #1 food source for vitamin C through their marketing. The best food sources are: Strawberries and Red Peppers are even higher in vitamin C than Oranges and Hot Peppers are supposed to be an even better source. It's written a bit carelessly with all kinds of advice on diet that is either contradictory from one situation/chapter to another or facts that simply are not true (like oranges being the best source of vitamin C).
Lauren has many mishaps, tears, health problems and injuries that one wonders why she doesn't take her own advice. Her goofy sense of humor goes well with the gimmicky solutions but it's hard to take them seriously. How has she somehow become a miracle healer over many experts and doctors, really? If it seems too good to be true, it usually is. Not one single person has written a review saying she has healed them anywhere or recommending her for any solution. Seems this book is all a big marketing gimmick. She also suggests a lot of red meat and eggs in the diets, people should beware and read Dr. Roizen's info on how red meat changes the bacteria in your gut, yes even grass fed red meat and organic eggs too! Essentially the resulting red meat/eggs bacteria changing compound created in the gut causes cancer and other things (google it). There are many more contradictions and incorrect fact examples I have come across, too many to write here. You get the idea.
The book has lost a lot of credibility for me for a few reasons. On the day the book was released thirty, 5 star reviews magically appeared on amazon by her friends, family and husband then next day like 10 more appeared. Not one review anywhere here nor on Yelp, is from a single person who says that she helped them with a solution related to this book. She claims to heal lots of people with her solutions, but not one person? She also is the queen of hype, she uses everything she can for hype, like #1 bestseller of new releases in Yoga (I think it was the only release in yoga, since then it's been switched to detox category and back to yoga ). And...honestly I feel a bit foolish because I bought it then asked myself what did I think was truly credible about it in the first place. Don't waste your time or money, her ego (which is so big Lauren never ties her hair up or back despite the fact that it should be and would look more professional in her yoga videos than her flipping her hair all around and not being able to see the anatomy) and all the hype seems much greater than her so called solutions.
In my opinion she is a Marketing Genius and should write a book on how to market yourself and create hype through Social Media. I counted at least 270,000 followers all totaled across several social media platforms and a blog. I have attended her yoga classes and there isn't anything special about them except the cool loft space and the pace is faster (may be good or bad). Can we get a book on how you got 270,000 followers and created so much hype and some business secrets Lauren (it's obvious you are smart, hustle and work harder than most)? Once you have that kind of social media exposure in any business, other people want to get exposure to those people and will partner with you on anything.

Totally unimpressed
By melissa shirley
This book got so much press through the wellness blogosphere I was ready to love it, and very excited for its release. Unfortunately, there's nothing new here, and also this is not a book that translates well to the Kindle format. If you're on the fence, try to find it at a library or book store first. If you just flip through, you'll see it's certainly not worth $10 or more. Save it for a live yoga class.

Nice wellness book but the yoga part needs a little work.
By Deezy
I like the advice and general vibe of the book (outline, how it's written, etc), but the yoga sequences included are kind of terrible. The pics are small so some of the poses are hard to see (especially b/c they are in black and white), the suggested breath patterns aren't called out, there seem to be a lot of transitions missing, and it doesn't indicate whether you should switch sides throughout the sequence or do it all on one side, then the other. For instance, the sequence goes right into chair from down dog, which would usually require a float or step forward, followed by raising your arms. I regularly practice, so I was fine freestyling a bit, but I think it might confuse beginners, especially if you're trying to establish a flow rather than hold poses and move to the next. Besides that, it's a good book.
