Helpful book for singers who practice yoga or want to incorporate yoga into their routine

I bought this book to complete a project for yoga teacher training and used it for a presentation. It has great information but it not overwhelming. It makes yoga accessible and explains why yoga is good for singers and performers, and also talks about how you can use yoga differently to achieve different effects (for instance, needing to get "hepped"up to go on stage when you are low energy versus needing to calm down when you are fighting nerves and feeling anxious). She uses her own career and experience as an illustration. She suggests certain poses over others and explains what they do to your body and why it may aid you as a performer/singer. She also breaks down poses and uses pictures so you can see what a pose should look like. I liked how she referenced and used singers of all genres and physical abilities as examples. I found this book quick, easy to read, and useful.

Great book on mind control for performers.

“Be ready to throw some ego and insecurity out the window” says the author. According to her, yoga for singers is just like any kind of yog; it means you can’t think about how you look. Forget about looking fat, forget about how people look at you, yoga means concentration. But then again, aren’t performers supposed to concentrate? Aren’t stage actors supposed to ignore the thousands of eyes looking at them? Somehow, I think that the only remedy for stage fright is concentration, and that is what yoga is about.
Yoga For Singers is perfect for anyone looking to have a career in performing arts. It teaches both physical and mental self-discipline, focusing on concentration and anxiety control. There are photos on every page, illustrating the many poses available.
