About the Author
Dave Mitchell is one of the most popular speakers and corporate trainers in the United States. Each year nearly 10,000 people attend one of Dave's programs on leadership, selling skills, customer service excellence, organizational development or personal performance enhancement. His wide range of clients include several Fortune 500 companies in industries as diverse as mortgage banking, information technology, home building, insurance and luxury appliances. As soon as you open the book, you feel as though you are sitting down with Dave, over a glass of great wine, and enjoying a witty, disarming yet insightful conversation. "Live, Learn or Die Stupid" contains those simple nuggets of wisdom that we all acknowledge, know to be true, but rarely act upon! Yet, there is more truth than we may care to admit in Dave's reminder to us that we all perceive reality through our own filters and those filters guide us toward our focus--our reality. Most significantly, in a world that takes itself way too seriously, Dave reminds us to laugh, most especially at ourselves...after all, "you have so much more material to work with that way!"

About the Author

Paolo J. Knill is one of the founders of the expressive arts therapy program at Lesley University, USA and is the Provost of the European Graduate School (EGS) in Switzerland, which offers MA and PhD degrees in expressive arts therapy. Ellen G. Levine and Stephen K. Levine are co-founders of the ISIS-Canada training programme in expressive arts therapy. Ellen is the Dean of Independent Study in expressive arts therapy, education, and consulting at the EGS and Stephen is the Dean of the Doctoral Programme.

All three authors have published extensively in the field, with two of their works, Foundations of Expressive Arts Therapy and Poiesis, published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers.

Machiavelli's political writings

Machiavelli certainly has a bad reputation, it seems. I was curious to see what all of the fuss was about. I definitely have a different view than most regarding the style Machiavelli writes. He seems more like a realist than an advocate for evil. These writings are expertly organized and history is provided which helps to put the writings into the perspective of the times.

Pretty Good Book

This book was pretty good. Directed mostly towards young adults; it's divided into 3 sections of 6 stories each: Evil, Darkness and Beasts. The EVIL section deals with mostly the general supernatural-- ghosts, unexplained experiences..etc. The DARKNESS section deals with mostly psychological aspects of horror and suspense. And the BEASTS section is pretty self explainatory- Vampires, Werewolves..etc.

The best stories in the book in my opinion were "Imagining Things" in the Darkness section where a young boy 'imagines' he see dark shadowy creatures that seem to 'haunt' or follow him. Or is it really all in his imagination after all? The pyschological suspense and eerie ending really made this one stand out for me. The next best story is "Grandma Kelly" in the Beast section. A girl having a bad day is about to realize how much worse it can get when she runs into a seemingly harmless old woman on the way home from school. This story combines a bit of dark humor with a clever ending.

Generally, I found that the rest of the stories were either confusing(Incident Report and Empire of Dirt, which were filled with, in my opinion too much technical jargon) or either were somewhat depressing or just plain odd. Only one story really had any gore (Saving Face)It was an overall good book, and while many of the stories weren't really SCARY in the typical sense; the book was very entertaining and I could hardly put it down. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a variety of supernatural and horror short stories.

Excellent review of the world's most powerful dogs

Whether or not this book is new or old to the dog world in general, it wasn't new to me. I hadn't heard of several of the dogs contained herein, and it was very interesting to see what they look like and read about their history and gameness.

I learned quite a bit about gameness, and the inappropriately labeled "sport" of dogfighting, although this book DOES NOT (nor do I) support or promote dogfighting. I also learned that Dr. Semencic really likes the American Pit Bull Terrier - as it is the gamest of all breeds.

Provides a very insightful look at the man Mao that seems well balanced and respectful. Yet the author is unafraid to show us the personal flaws of a contradictory and confusing individual who had left his mark on the conscious of the chine people.

What emerges is a fascinating portrait of rich and diverse Islamic societies. Alongside the famous characters who colored this landscape—including Muhammad’s cousin ’Ali; the Crusader-era hero Saladin; and the poet Rumi—are less well-known figures, such as Ibn Fadlan, whose travels in Eurasia brought fascinating first-hand accounts of the Volga Vikings to the Abbasid Caliph; the eleventh-century Karima al-Marwaziyya, a woman scholar of Prophetic traditions; and Abu al-Qasim Ramisht, a twelfth-century merchant millionaire.
 
An illuminating read for anyone interested in learning more about this often-misunderstood civilization, this book creates a vivid picture of life in all arenas of the pre-modern Muslim world.

About the Author
Chase F. Robinson was Lecturer and Professor of Islamic History in the Faculty of Oriental Studies and Fellow of Wolfson College at the University of Oxford from 1993 until 2008, when he was appointed Distinguished Professor of History and Provost of the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where he now serves as President. His extensive publications on Islamic history include Islamic Historiography, Empire and Elites after the Muslim Conquest, and The New Cambridge History of Islam, Volume 1.
